Pre-Departure

Benvenuto, everyone!

Welcome to my blog! I hope to keep you all as entertained and updated as possible on my journey throughout the beautiful Italia! As busy as I am sure I will be, my goal is to upload photos, post about my experiences and travels, and tell the tales of my many interactions with the Italian people.

I depart for my travels this Saturday, January 15, at 3:45p.m. from O'Hare International Airport. Rumor has it that many other CIMBA students will be accompanying my friend Sarah and I on our flight to Rome! Hopefully the 14 hour flight will be plenty of time to get to know each other! After, we will be catching a connecting flight to Marco Polo Airport in Venice. We will be exploring the city and staying the night at a hotel in Venice Sunday evening. Monday morning, we will depart Venice early and head to our new home in Paderno del Grappa. :)

I will be studying at a small liberal arts college in the northeast region of Veneto in Paderno del Grappa, Italia. It is about one hour and a half from Venice by public transportation. My beautiful scenery will be the Alps, alongside a beautiful and famous Mount Grappa. I will be living in a dormitory on the campus of Istituto Filippin. It is a quaint Italian town that is quite small, but perfect for American students fighting off culture shock! The university I will be studying at is actually a boarding school for a small amount of Italian students. Many of the older students will be living on campus with us, while the younger students tend to commute. I am so eager to get to know everyone and (hopefully) meet tons of Italian friends! And of course treat myself to some REAL gelato!

The best way to describe how I am feeling right now is excitedly-nervous.  This is the beginning of a new chapter in my life -- one that will surely throw me for a loop a time or two! Beginning in a new world, new culture, and new people is exciting, nerve-wracking, intimidating, thrilling, intriguing, confusing, life-altering, and a million other adjectives I can go all day naming. I am positive that this experience will help to not only challenge the person and individual that I am, but help to solidify that character into the person I want to be. I couldn't ask for anything more -- especially given the opportunity to get to know myself in a country as beautiful and exotic as Italy! I am so excited to be sharing this experience with all of you. Please keep me tucked away in your thoughts, hearts, and prayers as I embark on a journey that is sure to shape the rest of my life.

Until next time --- Ciao!
